Story:
Inspired by a true story, it's abt the relationship btw
Roger Lee (Andy Lau) and his long serving housemaid
sister Tao (Deanie Lp).
Simply, a story of a man and his aging childhood nanny.
What draws me to the movie is-
I'll like to see the kind of magical performance
brewed by the main casts to win the coveted
best actor+actress at the Golden Horse Awards.
And will the story be THAT heart touching?
How I feel:
The story started off in their own strolling speed
that's all too common for such emotional wrecking movie.
I took it on and watched in anticipation.
With tissue on stand-by.
Midway into the show,
I was like... okie... tears coming soon.
Soon...soon... soon...
until the ending when sister Tao is about to pass away.
Okie! Be prepared.
But it never came.
The show was too biographically detailed,
making it extremely tormenting to sit through.
I concur with some parts where they show life of old folks in the elderly home
constantly trying to use them to tinkle our emotions.
However I do find those quite banal, nothing extraordinary.
Even the death of a elderly who fell to her death
did not hit me too hard emotionally.
Or have I grown to be more cold-blooded?
Even when sister Tao was dying,
the end episode was so lightly treaded,
Andy Lau did not shed a tear.
Seems too easy for him to win the Best Actor Award
when compared to his other works where he needs to fight,
tears till cow come home yet still missing the award.
Making me question hard work does not always reap rewards.
Luck seems to play a part too.
My Review:
ONE OUT OF FIVEI was disappointed with this one.
And all the good reviews that come with it.
I would expect at least a crying ending,
sending the audience into another wrecked titanic.
All said, I do enjoy and applaud Deanie Ip (yes, christian name of that aunty)
who acted so well as an aging nanny.
